Sailboat Bend is a small neighborhood located immediately southwest of the downtown business district and is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Fort Lauderdale. Sailboat Bend’s historic designation has a visible impact on the neighborhood. Grid names for streets have been replaced by historic names — many from original plats. In many instances, picket fences have replaced stockade fences, historic homes have been renovated adding to the eclectic feel and charm. Residents take pride in their homes and in their community. Many of the homes are on the New River and the neighborhood has the only historic swing bridge in Florida.
Sailboat Bend is bordered to the south by the north fork of the New River, I-95 to the west, downtown to the east and Broward Boulevard to the north making this neighborhood very convenient for both commuters and in town workers alike. Known for being within walking distance of the Himarshee arts and entertainment district, this charming old Florida neighborhood has seen tremendous surge with first time home buyers and young professionals.
